Indian Television Soap Operas

Kyu........
Kas............
Kah..............
Kku................

Oh help me God!!! I have lost my vocabulary!!! It starts with K and ends with K .... but I vaguely remember when in school I was taught that, A is the first alphabet. I dont how all of a sudden things have changed. Well I will tell you story on this ......

Once upon a time, there was an indepedent kingdom (read country) called, "India". Television had just entered the homes of few people who could afford to. The house that owned the television set was a mini theatre for the neighbours and some also charged a "per view" fee, about 10 paise I guess (it was not per view but per seating I guess, till you are kicked out from the house). The television was a technology revolution in India and the next best thing to click and view black and white photographs. Now people could see actual people moving in the "Idiot Box" as it was termed.

The best thing was to view news that was coming only once or twice a day. Plus view few movies -- Eastman color movies viewed on the black and white screen. Soon television that could show color pictures were introduced..... Wow!!!! that was a huge turn in the history of the great country and history was repeated. The color television was a prized possesion of "Rich and Classy" People.

During this phase various television "serials" were launched. Here starts the tragedy in the Indian Television scene. The indian homes were deep with sorrow and sad feelings and the so called homely environment being shown on television.

"Humlog" was a milestone and the start of the tear gang on Indian television. Who can forget are very own "Dada Muni" coming at the end of the serial and saying -- *Sigh*Kya Lajo Ye kar payegi ........ *Longer Sigh*, *Sigh*Kya basesar sharab peeyega *Longer Sigh*, *Sigh* KYa Badki, Nanne, and so onnnnnnn and full of *Sigh**Sigh**Sigh**Sigh**Sigh*..... Well I am not saying that it was bad. It was a classic I too loved watching it, But ..........................

But I never expected this to be one of the most historic moment in Television History.... then started Buniyaad and so on.... tears started flowing from every corner of the house .... and so went on the display of grief, sorrow and problems ............

The story continues till date ... it is said that change is something that never changes ..... absolutely true ... times changed ...television changed ... now there are more than 100 channels available in Indian Metros for people to choose from .... but what goes on every television from 7:30 pm to 12:00 am ..................

The change now is ...............

You have a Saas (or two depending on the number of wives the Sasur had), a bahu or more and a whole lot of pranksters, tricksters, villians and vamps. Marriages as per the Indian television is a joke. Anyone can marry anyone at the writers convenience. I have lost count of who has married to whom and how many times.... I think we had a revolution going in for population control but these serials reflect that you can have children as per your cnovenience .... Lets take this equation.

Mr. B has 2 daughters and 1 son from his first wife, then he marries another woman who already has 1 son and 1 daughter and together they also have another daughter ... hold lets calculate that is 6 in all .... then there is an illicit relationship of Mr. B which gives birth to another daughter that makes them 7 in all ..... Wow !! what are we portraying to the common public "the more the better"....

Secondly age is something that has become a joke ... years pass by as you change channels ... a moment ago the lead actress is about 30 yrs old a mother of 2 (or 3) and just after the commercial advertisments .. she is about 55 with a strand of gray hair and mother of 7 and grandmother of 7 X 2... Amazing !!!!

MONEY is something that is water in these soaps... Millions or should I say "Crores" in pure Indian terms is flowing in and out of peoples pocket just like that ... I have never seen a single episode where in people are talking about "Crores" of rupees and also talking about the amount of "TAX" being paid.

I am not against showing the real scenarios that happen and building a nice story line with it ... but I doubt if at all these things do happen.

I know I know .. people are bored with the same thing being written over and over... but cant help it see the "television effect" ...... Any television producer or director or anyone else reading this ... I can also be pedantic ............

Komments Kelcome .... Krom Kall Khe Keaders ..... Holy ...

Comments Welcome .... from all the readers .....

Kheers !!!! Ooooooopss!!! Cheers !!
